Hebron Colony / Grace Home
A Christ-Centered Addiction Recovery Ministry
Our Pastoral Team
It takes a lot of dedicated people to manage the ministry of Hebron Colony and Grace Home. While no one person is any more or less important than any other, we thought you might like to meet some of our pastoral staff. Each one of these individuals serve in many capacities within the ministry, but their primary role is in service to the men and women who come to Hebron Colony and Grace Home seeking a new way of life.
"From Building Homes to Building the Kingdom of God"
Don was born in 1954 to a bi-vocational pastor and his wife in the Asheville area. He relocated to the Boone area in 1975 where he became a general contractor in the custom home and cabinet business. It was during that time that he met his wife, Karen, who is currently an elementary school teacher, and together they started a family. They have one son, Heath, who obtained his Building Sciences degree from Appalachian State University here in Boone.
Through a radical salvation experience in 1979, Don came to know the Lord, Jesus, and was delivered from the bondage of addiction in his own life. Don heeded God’s calling upon his life, graduating from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1992, and serving as the senior pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk, NC.
During that time, the Lord tendered Don’s heart with a passion and love for those struggling with addiction in their lives. By following God’s clear direction, Don came to Hebron Colony in 2000 first as the Associate Director and six years later as the Executive Director, in which capacity he continues to serve.
"From Fisherman to a Fisher of Men"
Danny was born in Vidalia, Georgia in the middle of 1948. His father was an electrician and his mother was both a homemaker and a schoolteacher. With four brothers and a twin sister, he comes from a rather large family by today’s standards. After high school, Danny served four years in the U.S. Navy and then pursued a career with the telephone company. In 1976 he met and married his wife, Connie, and together they have three children. Somewhere around 1983, Danny relocated his family to the Boone area where he and his wife have lived ever since.
At 33 years of age Danny came to know the Lord and was delivered from a life of addiction and bondage, but it wasn’t until 2005 that God really began to call Danny into the ministry. He attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute where he graduated in 2007 and was called to be the Assistant Director at Hebron Colony. Since that time, Danny knows in his heart that he is following the path that God has laid before him and, as he says, he is living proof that God doesn’t need much to work with.
"From Winning Games to Winning Souls for Jesus"
R.D. was born in 1949 in Watauga County where he lives to this day, and where he married his high school sweetheart while attending Appalachian State University here in Boone. After earning his degree in physical education, he taught and coached team sports in the local public school system, which he says was one of his greatest joys. During that time, his wife gave birth to their son and R.D. left teaching for the business world in order to better support their family. Following that, he and his wife were further blessed with twin girls.
R.D. came to trust Jesus as his Savior in 1984 and to experience the delivering power of Christ in his own life. He became involved in his local church, leading various bible study groups until the Lord laid it on his heart to begin evangelism preaching. Following his first wife’s death from cancer in 2004, R.D. married his current wife, Betty, a godly woman who is a wholehearted supporter of his service to the Lord.
In 2010, through a series of acquaintances and experiences, the Lord opened the door for R.D. to begin preaching the Tuesday night services at Hebron Colony. Two years later, the Lord directed him to accept his current position as Hebron Colony’s Admissions Director.
Santee Site Director
“From Molding Young Minds to Mending Broken Lives”
Nita born in 1962 in Hayden, Kentucky as the daughter of a coal miner and his wife who was a special education school teacher. After high school, she went on to college in Louisville, Kentucky where she earned her Associates Degree in Technology. She then married and moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked in the field of early child development for over 10 years.
Although Nita had come to know the Lord in 1973, it wasn’t until 1999 that she truly surrendered to His will for her life. During that year, following the breakup of her marriage and struggling with alcoholism in her own life, she came to Grace Home for help and found freedom from addiction through Jesus Christ.
After graduating the program at Grace Home, she stayed on as a volunteer assisting with the opening of our first thrift store operation. She was very instrumental in the relocation of Grace Home from its original home in Boone to its current facilities in Santee, SC where she now serves as the Site Director.
Dr. David Brien
"A Life of Service to the Lord"
Dr. Brien was born in 1944 in Pontiac, Michigan and is the youngest of three children born to his mother and father. He married his wife Claudia in 1965 and they have two sons, David and Timothy, and three grandchildren.
Dr. Brien accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at an early age, and felt God’s call to full-time Christian service when he was in his teen years. After graduating high school, he attended Detroit Bible College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education. Then, following a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, he went on to receive his Master’s degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Beeson Divinity School.
Beginning in his early adult years, Dr. Brien has served as Youth Director for churches in Michigan and Maryland, and then, following a move to South Carolina, as Associate Pastor and Minister of Education for the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner where he was ordained in 1978. He also served 14 years as the Missions Director for the Screven Baptist Association and 11 years as the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Holly Hill.
Missions work has been a big part of Dr. Brien’s life and service to the Lord. While he has literally traveled the world on various short-term mission trips, it was during his time at Holly Hill that Dr. Brien was made aware the mission work of Hebron Colony through our women’s facility in Santee. It was there that the Lord moved in his heart to volunteer as a bible teacher, and later to take on his current position as the Pastor/Counselor of Grace Home.
