Hebron Colony / Grace Home
A Christ-Centered Addiction Recovery Ministry
Our Pastoral Team
It takes a lot of dedicated people to manage the ministry of Hebron Colony and Grace Home. While no one person is any more or less important than any other, we thought you might like to meet some of our pastoral staff. Each one of these individuals serve in many capacities within the ministry, but their primary role is in service to the men and women who come to Hebron Colony and Grace Home seeking a new way of life.
Don Holder
Executive Director
Don was born in 1954 to a bi-vocational pastor and his wife in the Asheville area. He relocated to the Boone area in 1975 where he became a general contractor in the custom home and cabinet business. It was during that time that he met his wife, Karen, who is currently an elementary school teacher, and together they started a family. They have one son, Heath, who obtained his Building Sciences degree from Appalachian State University here in Boone.
Through a radical salvation experience in 1979, Don came to know the Lord, Jesus, and was delivered from the bondage of addiction in his own life. Don heeded God’s calling upon his life, graduating from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1992, and serving as the senior pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk, NC.
During that time, the Lord tendered Don’s heart with a passion and love for those struggling with addiction in their lives. By following God’s clear direction, Don came to Hebron Colony in 2000 first as the Associate Director and six years later as the Executive Director, in which capacity he continues to serve.
Bryan Wright
Associate Director
Bryan was born in 1959 in Raleigh, NC and grew up in a family with three siblings. After attending UNC in Chapel Hill, he married his college sweetheart Angela and they have been joyfully married since 1983. They have three children: Phillip, Kristin, and Allison. The Lord brought Bryan to Life in Jesus in March 1985, and then called him into the ministry to serve as a shepherd to love His sheep.
Bryan attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary north of Boston, and since then has served as a shepherd in three states for over 30 years, and as a missionary in Belarus on 14 different occasions. He has a passion for 'the worldwide multicultural glory of the Cross' and has had the privilege of serving the least and the lost in manifold contexts that have included the honor of serving many wonderful homeless people and those struggling with various addictions.
The Lord called Bryan to Hebron Colony Ministries and he began this wonderful adventure in March 2022 where he has seen more miracles of the Cross of Jesus in the hearts of men in the first six months than in over 30 years of previous pastoral ministry. The Lord Jesus has truly set aside this Holy Ground as a 'House of Miracles' where for over 75 years He has been setting captives Free Indeed to Abundant and Eternal Life.
R.D. Hodges
Admissions Director
R.D. was born in 1949 in Watauga County where he lives to this day, and where he married his high school sweetheart while attending Appalachian State University here in Boone. After earning his degree in physical education, he taught and coached team sports in the local public school system, which he says was one of his greatest joys. During that time, his wife gave birth to their son and R.D. left teaching for the business world in order to better support their family. Following that, he and his wife were further blessed with twin girls.
R.D. came to trust Jesus as his Savior in 1984 and to experience the delivering power of Christ in his own life. He became involved in his local church, leading various bible study groups until the Lord laid it on his heart to begin evangelism preaching. Following his first wife’s death from cancer in 2004, R.D. married his current wife, Betty, a godly woman who is a wholehearted supporter of his service to the Lord.
In 2010, through a series of acquaintances and experiences, the Lord opened the door for R.D. to begin preaching the Tuesday night services at Hebron Colony. Two years later, the Lord directed him to accept his current position as Hebron Colony’s Admissions Director.
Nita Smith
Santee Site Director
Nita born in 1962 in Hayden, Kentucky as the daughter of a coal miner and his wife who was a special education school teacher. After high school, she went on to college in Louisville, Kentucky where she earned her Associates Degree in Technology. She then married and moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked in the field of early child development for over 10 years.
Although Nita had come to know the Lord in 1973, it wasn’t until 1999 that she truly surrendered to His will for her life. During that year, following the breakup of her marriage and struggling with alcoholism in her own life, she came to Grace Home for help and found freedom from addiction through Jesus Christ.
After graduating the program at Grace Home, she stayed on as a volunteer assisting with the opening of our first thrift store operation. She was very instrumental in the relocation of Grace Home from its original home in Boone to its current facilities in Santee, SC where she now serves as the Site Director.
Here you will find the hope and the help you need to overcome addiction.
